Description: Male orchid bees (Euglossini) have a special organ on their back legs for collecting volatile compounds from orchid flowers. These compounds are used to attract a mate. Females require both pollen and nectar for rearing their offspring and so visit other flowers. This one was collecting pollen in the garden of Hotel Bouganvillea, San Jose, Costa Rica
